When you hear someone say, "Your car has died" they are referring to the engine has stalled, shut off, died, stopped running, this is basic mechanics shop jargon.

Sometimes it also means that a particular vehicle has died, meaning the vehicle is so far gone it is not worth the time, money, or effort to try and fix it. The body may be rusted dented etc., the interior may be torn broken seats etc., the engine and all its mechanical systems may be too far gone to deem repairable....it may be in these instances better to scrap that vehicle and invest in buying a better one, newer, cleaner, more dependable, capable of passing the State Inspection if such exists or a mechanics inspection of the vehicle, should you find it necessary to hire one to check out the vehicle you plan on purchasing before hand to insure you make an intelligent decision on buying this vehicle.
