Custom farming (at least in the US) is the ownership and/or operation of farm equipment for hire on another person's farm. The traveling wheat harvest combines which begin every year in late May in Texas, moving gradually northward throughout the summer and ending in the Dakotas and Montana are a good example. Custom farmers frequently lease new equipment every year then sell it at the end of the season.
