I started driving in 1937 wearing ordinary street clothes. I was born in 1921. I only remember other clothes in midwinter. Heaters were nonexistent or not very effective so we wore artics and heavy winter clothing. In the very early 1900s before closed cars were common people wore goggles and dusters to protect them from road dust.
