The simpliest are the folding travel trailers or "pop-ups" which are actually small box style trailers with a tent cover and expanding ends with beds. Thetechnology on these are really expanding and have kitchens , baths and a/c and or heating. These are great for towing with smaller vehicles. Travel trailers are the next size up and are basically towable small mobile homes complete with all appliances, heating/cooling and water and sewer storage. These are towed with larger more powerfull vehicles. Next are the fifth wheels which come in even larger longer floor plans and have a front gooseneck which usually houses a large bedroom area and complete living quarters with all the amenities of home. They may even have a generator. Fifth wheels require large 3/4 or one ton towing vehicles with v-8's or diesel motors preferrably dual wheels.
Next are the class b motorhomes which resemble the ambulance style bodies but are self contained with appliances , beds, and small baths.
Above these in size are the class "c" motorhomes which have beds in the cabover , powered by van style front end chassis's and which are fully self contained and usually with their own generator. Their sizes run from 21-30 feet in length. They offer the ease of driving a familiar van style vehicle with all the conveniences of a travel trailer attached.
Class "a" motorhomes are the large more box style motorhomes which are built on a chassis designed for that purpose alone and are much easier to drive, more comfortable and have many more options and more amenities to ensure luxury on the road. A lot of full timers use these and even more of the diesel pushers are used by entertainers for "homes on the road". The class a motorhome can be as small as 24 feet or as long as 42 feet according to the chassis , style or function needed.
The newest RV is the " toy hauler " which is half travel trailer, motorhome , or fifth wheel with the back half being a small garage for motocycles, Golf carts or ATV.s/pwc's. With a built in ramp. These are very popular in the nascar followers use!
All of these are available with expanding slide out rooms to make your stay easier and larger living/entertaining quarters. Some have fireplaces, and ice makers with wet bars and satelite dishes are the norm.
The thing to keep in mind is the large number of styles, do research and get the RV that fits your use, budget and living style. The open roads call!!!!
