What are some advantages of a sports car?

Most of the advantages come in form of safety:

1. Mass: Most sport cars (camaro, MBW, etc) are made of large amounts of heavy metal, making them much heavier than even a typical SUV. Due to the nature of physical laws, heavier object are more difficult to stop/start. That means that when you are hit by another vehicle, your mass will prevent you from rolling over, hitting other cars on the road, and experience less shock in general. Did I just mention it? Performance cars are very small in height (usually) and have a wide standing base, decreasing chances of rolling over on a sharp turn.

2. Breaks: Simple fact here is that most performance cars are equipped with the most modern/advanced/high performance brakes. While large mass of the vehicle counteracts this advantage, the performance of the breaks almost always is better those of other typical vehicles. Every single performance car will be critiqued based on its ability to stop under particular amount of time and distance it takes for it to stop (eg. 60-0 mph within x amount of feet). This is rarely done on other vehicles, such as SUVs, vans, and other sedans. This is a great advantage on the road because when (and that is often when accidents occur) some one cuts you or stops suddenly, your car's ability to stop will depend largely on your ability to react and ability of your breaks to provide large amount of friction. (NOTE: disks and other technologies are also better providing more security.)

3. Handling: As with breaks, handling is also more robust in performance vehicles making them more more maneuverable during tight situations. The vague definition of handling is defined by many factors, such as center of mass, tires and wheels, aerodynamics, steering system, alignment of the wheels, and rigidity of the frame. While other factors such as weather conditions and road alter the handling, above mentioned factors are always on the mind of the engineers of a performance car. Having great handling will help the experienced driver to perform fast maneuvers on the road that may help prevent serious accidents without compromising.

4. Acceleration: While less important, fact is that the faster is your ability to move a car from point of impact, the less chances you have of being hit. Be it if you are on a highway moving at 60 MPH our standing on the intersection, your ability to accelerate out of the danger zone will depend on your transmission and the number of horses your engine provides. These aspects are well thought out during the engineering stage and to an experienced driver, these aspects may help the driver get out of a bad situation quickly.

While all good is great, here is a short selection on disadvantages:

1. increased cost for 'performance'.

2. decreased mileage per gallon of fuel.

3. increased insurance costs.

4. increased repair costs.
