No no no!! There is no release for it. If the car is unlocked, you just push on the gas lid and it pops open. (And if locked, pushing on it does nothing).

Press the button next to driver's seat you fool. Once you press it, it will open the lid to the fuel tank. This way, you don't have to get out of the car when you go to the gas station.

If your laptop has a power button which can be accessed without opening the lid, just press the button. However most laptops these days have the power button under the lid (to keep you from accidentally turning it on in the bag) in which case, youll just have to open the lid.
