No. You cannot insure something that you don't own. This is a fact of life. The insured and the vehicle owner must be the same with the only exceptions being members of a household immediate family, which does not include parents, brothers, sisters, friends, or boyfriends of the insured. If you are insured and you add a car owned by anyone except your spouse or dependent children living in your home, and the car is damaged, the insurance company cannot pay you for damage to a vehicle you don't own, and cannot pay the owner, because they don't have an insurance contract with the company. There is no way around this. If you add a vehicle you don't own to your policy the company will not pay for damages to said vehicle. They cannot legally do so. It makes no difference if the owner is a rated driver or not. You mother must have her own policy.
NO. The insurance policy has to be in the name of the titled owner.
yes
Sure; you can insure the vehicle itself. However, you should disclose to your insurance company your condition so they understand that you cannot and should not be insured as a driver of the vehicle.
No. The person whose name is on the legal title must insure the vehicle. The mother-in-law should be rated as the driver, but if your name is on the title, you must insure it.
Just a little more info. We have 3 cars and 3 persons living in the household. I am 18 years old and currently got my g2 in Jan/2012. My mom is primary driver of 2 existing vehicles in the house. I want to insure another vehicle under a different car insurance with my mom being primary driver and me occasional driver. Can she be primary driver of 3 cars? I know about me being able to drive the 2 other cars, but I heard their is a waiver you can sign not to drive the other cars. The car i want to insure is a 2007 Camry 4dr LE V6
I have known people to buy vehicle without a driver's license, but I don't believe you can insure it. You probably could get storage insurance, or maybe insure it with someone else as a primary driver. But most likely the insurance will have to be purchased by someone else. im an auto insurance agent.... in some states, you may insure your car even if you dont have a valid driver license. you may also buy your own car in some dealerships. you just gotta look for them...
Yes you can even insure it - you just can't drive.
I bought a vehicle but cannot drive as I cannot have a drivers license. Is there a way to insure and license it in my name so I may have a licensed driver drive my vehicle?
do you need a license ti insure a vehicle in new jersey
I believe that I understand what you are asking. If I am not correct ask it again and I will try to do better. Auto insurance generally follows the vehicle and not the driver. Only the person who owns the vehicle can insure are vehicle except in a situation of an immediate family. One policy can cover members of the family even if the vehicle is in the name of other members of the family as long as they all live in the same household.
In order to take out insurance on a vehicle, you need to have insurable interest in it. If he is not on the title or the loan, he has no insurable interest. If he is driving the vehicle, but you own it, you should take out the policy in your name and have him listed as the primary driver. If he is the only person listed on the policy and he totals out the vehicle, he wouldn't get paid for it anyway...you would.
Yes. Many people store cars, and other vehicles in other places and they are insured.
