well not knowing what exactly the problem is I will tell you the issues I have encountered at my dealership. Most of these trucks either have encoder motor problems or internal problems such as worn friction material etc., a lot of leaks at the right front axle seal is common but will not keep it from 4wd, also the switch itself it is electronic controlled can have issues, usually sets a code in the ATC module though.
