Can you make a diesel engine which works on the basic principle of petrol engine or you can say it uses diesel as a fuel but works on the principle of petrol engine?

No, a diesel is a compression firing engine and a petrol is a spark firing engine. Diesel fuel will not burn in a petrol engine with spark plugs.

Does diesel burn?

Of course diesel will burn. It is a fuel used in the internal combustion diesel engine. It burns from being compressed to a very high ratio rather than from a spark plug. Diesel fuel is manufactured along side unleaded gasoline and powers millions of vehicles worldwide.

Why does diesel do not have electric ignition system?

because of in the diesel engine fuel injector is uses for ignite the charge & they are operated by fuel pump not to electricity and in the diesel engine there is no requirement of spark plug to genrate the spark

Do fuel injected engines have spark plugs?

If it is a gas engine, yes. Diesel , no. Yes if it is gasoline engine,no if is a diesel.

Why diesel engine given name diesel?

This comes after the name of Rudolf Diesel who succeeded to build his well-known high-compression prototype engine in 1897. Rudolf Diesel was credited with this innovation. The diesel engine (also known as a compression-ignition engine) is an internal combustion engine that uses the heat of compression to initiate ignition and burn the fuel that has been injected into the combustion chamber. This contrasts with spark-ignition engines such as a petrol engine (gasoline engine) or gas engine (using a gaseous fuel as opposed to gasoline), which use a spark plug to ignite an air-fuel mixture.

What is spark ignition or Diesel?

spark ignition engine is also known as petrol engine. but in diesel engines the fuel is burnt due to the high compression of air.so there is no need of spark plug

How is a gasoline engine different from a diesel engine?

A gas engine ignites gasoline in the piston chamber with a spark from a spark plug. The expanding gas then pushes the piston out and the motor moves forward. A diesel engine uses diesel fuel, different from gasoline, and the fuel is compressed by the piston until it ignites, sending the piston out. There are no spark plugs in a a diesel engine. Some diesel engines will have "glow plugs" which are used to initially start the engine but once started, compressing the fuel is the method of ignition.

How do you distinguish between a petrol engine and diesel engine when they are not working?

If the engine has spark plug it is said to be petrol engine, and if it has a pump to inject fuel then it is diesel engine.

How many liters of air goes into a diesel engine for 1 liter of fuel?

Nine cubic meters of air is required to burn 1 liter of fuel in a diesel engine. A person does not put liters of air into a diesel engine. Liters of fuel are put into a diesel engine.

Can you put diesel fuel into a 1991 dodge ram d50?

Not if you want it to go anywhere. Diesel fuel will not burn in a gasoline engine.

Why petrol engine is called spark ignition engine?

Because the fuel is ignited by a spark plug rather than by compression as is the case with a diesel.

Can diesel fuel destroy gasoline engines?

NO, I have seen it done for awhile. (Diesel fuel is an oil.) But eventually the gas engine will stop running (if residual gas remains in the tank) due to failure to burn completely in a gas engine. Expect carbon buildup and dirty spark plugs prior to it stopping. But diesel fuel does interact with copper fuel lines so that's not good either.
