Mine comes on periodically too, and then the engine wont start. If you sit tight for about 5 - 10 minutes until the light stops flashing, the engine will start right up.

A flashing check engine light is an indication of a misfire.
How can I start the engine on a Lincoln town car. I accidently caused the horn to keep blowing and I kept pushing buttons on the remote until it quit blowing. Then the anti theft lights were flashing on the dash and the engine would not start.
I believe they are talking about a light on the dash that is flashing when you first get in the vehicle. It has a cover with an opening, inside there are two metal posts . There is a small device you keep on your key-ring, that also has 2 small metal posts. In order to start the vehicle you must stick the device on your key-ring into the slot, making contact between the metal posts stops the flashing light, then, and only then with your ignition key start the vehicle. I have one on my 2004 Saturn Vue. I despise it. It is a royal pain in the you know what. I'd love to disable mine also.

alternator light is flashing by telling you that the alternator isn't working proper. the alternator is the one that keep charging the battery. it help keep your car moving longer. if you drive without alternator and it wouldn't keep the engine running for 5 min.
That little black chip with the metal contact point in your key has to be in center of key and the contact points should be clean. If security light goes on and car doesn't start don't keep trying to start it, wait about 3 minutes for security light to turn off, and clean the contact points on the chip in the key and you should make sure it is not shifting to one side of the key.
if overdrive light is flashing , take your vehicle to a transmission shop that light indicates a problem in the transmission do not ignore it to long or you will be calling a wreckr to come tow your vehicle as the transmission will quit i been there lol
