when was the last time you ran the bike also how old is the gas ?
1 pull the #1 plug wire that the one on the left side of bike check for spark if spark is OK pull the plugs clean or replace them '
2 Check air filter remove and clean or replace
3 check petcock on gas tank pull gas line and see if its flowing OK if you model has a vacuum line to the petcock make sure the it has no hole or pinch and the gas line is not pinch ( if your bike has a vac-cum line) pull the gas line off and try starting the bike be careful gas will flow out the petcock have someone try to start the bike .Hold a cup or anything that you can fill so it don't run on the motor or floor NO SMOKING
Note if you have Spark Fuel and Air the it shroud run that bike has a cdi so you don't have to check the timing good luck Larry K

Follow the cable down to a reservoir adjacent to the steering head.
Sure anything is possible with a little ingenuity - Yamaha parts especially older models can be swaped without too much fuss.

If it's a 1981-83 with BP7ES NGK spark Plug use a 0.032 inch gap.
