The seat should have a sensor inside that when enough weight is in the seat it will automatically turn on the airbag system for the passenger.

There's an airbag module under the front passenger seat that has an accellerometer in it. I'm not sure if that's all there is though.
It is under the passenger seat, you will have to remove the passenger seat then the rug will have to be pulled back to access the module.
