PF48 is longer. But, The PF48E primary performance improvement relates to the relief valve design. The PF48E has a compression spring loaded nylon poppet that outperforms the current valve design.

5w30 major brand. I personally use Pennzoil, and have for 25 years with no internal engine problems. Just as important is the oil filter and air filter. Replace the air filter every 30,000 miles. Replace the oil filter at every oil change every 5,000 miles. I recommend you use an AC/Delco filter. Top rated filter that will provide excellent protection and flow. If you cannot find an AC/Delco use a Purolator or Wix filter.
A larger filter has more filter material can last a little longer. Smaller filters will do the same job. But have less material to filter with.

Replace the FilterImmediately replace the filter, and top the fluid level off. It may be defective or the wrong kind. Replace it with an OEM AC/Delco filter to be sure you have the correct filter. AC/Delco filters are very highly rated filters I recommend you use them on your Chevy. Better answer-Change the oil to synthetic oil! The knock you are hearing is the piston skirts slapping the sleeve due to dry start! Mine did the same thing with conventional oil!
Ac delco's use to be good but not anymore, I use wix filters in my car and like them a lot better.
A quality filter such as AC/Delco is the filter your should use.
