Locking lug nuts are just as strong as standard lug nuts, just as long as they are correctly installed with the proper locking lug nut key wrench.
The difference in the number of lugs doesn't have to do with the year, if there's 5 lugs, the Tahoe is 2 wheel drive, if there's 6 lugs it is 4 wheel drive.
