In no way is it detrimental to a car, whereas overrun (when the wheels are driving the gearbox and engine) causes unnecessary wear on the transmission. Freewheeling will increase brake wear, but brakes are much easier and cheaper to replace than gearboxes and differentials.
Any vehicle that has to rely on engine braking, has an inadequate braking system.
what effect freewheeling diod
The same on a car equipped with manual transmission. On an automatic equipped car it will use less idling.
In a freewheeling engine, the piston tops and the valve bottoms do not share the same mechanical space, even if the timing belt or chain breaks.
Freewheeling refers to a person riding a bicycle without peddling such as down a hill. The word has been popularized to include personality traits indicating that a person is carefree.

You can save fuel because the engine then goes back to idle. But by disconnecting the engine from the wheels (freewheeling) you don't have so much control over your car. You can also save fuel by turning off the engine and freewheeling down a hill, but if you have power brakes they won't have any power. Could be a problem.
From some very bad car lot.

hi your sts has a 4t80e transmission.this is a complete electronic transmission.this has to go in and have the electronics tested first.this car could also be in limp mode, designed to make you take the car into be tested and repaired.with electronics just because the trans.is acting up doesnt mean its the trans.engine performance or electronics can affect the trans. as well.your freewheeling is because of transmission design, put it in manual low and then lift your foot, should have no freewheeling then.
