A rack end is the part of a steering system (rack-and-pinion-steering) that connects a steering rack to the tie rod (track rod/connecting rod) which connects to the wheel. In a simple steering system, there are four parts: steering rod - rack (this is the one that works with the pinion gear) - rack end - tie rod
A basic PS system has three components: pump : hoses : steering box A rack and pinion system has the same components except the "rack" replaces the steering box. The question is, what kind do you have and can you tell where the fluid has leaked out from. The prices range from relatively cheap(Hoses) to expensive(pump or steering box/rack)

Rack and pinion, power box, and power rack steering.
Rack and pinion steering works by converting the rotational motion of the steering wheel (via the pinion gear) into linear motion that moves the steering rack back and forth. This motion is then transferred to the tie rods, which ultimately steer the front wheels of the vehicle. The overall design provides a direct and precise means of controlling the direction of the vehicle.
