Its common physics. As your driving down the road, the air that comes in contact with it melts the ice. Its the same thing as frost or fog on your Windshield. if you warm up your car in the morning, and turn cold air onto your windshield, it will actually melt it faster that hot air would, being that it takes your car a while to produce hot air.
