A saloon car has a bonnet (UK) hood (US) at the front and a boot (UK) trunk(US) at the back. A hatchback is the same at the front but at the back there is a door that opens (upwards) straight into the car. They often have fold down rear seats so that you can store more stuff.

Ford made around 400 Infra Red Mondeo ST220's, around 90% of these were in Hatchback form with the Saloon and Estate being the rarest, currently I own one of the rare saloons, as of Jan 2013 I know of only 3 Infra Red saloon examples (although there may be slightly more out there, they are extremely rare ST220's).
