It would seem you cannot. However, you can select the "move" tool (up/down/left/right blue arrow tool) and it will work like a pointer.
I agree, even of the functionality of the "move" tool and the regular pointer are virtually identical, the context is different and a regular pointer tool option would be a welcome addition for many.
When you get your computer your cursor should be normal but if its not its not right. [Ej Chapman wrote this answer.]
This is a well-known bug in MS Word, where the cursor loses its link to the internal page view settings. Simply zoom the document view using the toolbar to 500%, then zoom back to whatever you want your view to be, and you'll find the cursor's back to normal.

When I type YOUR cursor goes back automatically? Weird much??? if that is, when i am typing this answer to your question your cursor goes back automatically.
Well, if you have the toolbar with the cursor mania here's what you do: 1. Click on the Cursor Mania button on the toolbar 2. Click "Default" from the side menu on the left 3. Click on the picture of the default cursor And you're all done:)
It will bring the cursor back to the start of something. In Excel, it brings the cursor back to the first cell of the row in the current window or pane, so usually back to column A.
I had the same problem. Got to the Bar at the top and where it says iCursorand click it and go down to where it says "Quit iCursor".Click that and your cursor will go back to normal.
The backspace key deletes to the left of the cursor, and the delete key deletes to the right of the cursor.
