How do I cancel my policy?

Do I need to have another policy in force to cancel this one?

You should have coverage with another carrier or consider staying with Progressive Direct. It's illegal in most states to drive a motor vehicle registered with the state and not carry auto insurance. If you'd like to stay with Progressive Direct, but need information on how to do that, call Customer Service toll free at 1-877-280-8418.

Do I need to notify you if I don't want to renew my policy?

If you are on Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or a credit card bill plan, you will need to contact us to stop the automatic withdrawals you authorized. Otherwise, if your policy is fully paid for and you don't want to renew, you may choose not to send us the amount presented in your renewal bill.

Will I get a refund?

It depends on how much premium you've paid in advance, where you are in the policy term, any recent policy changes, and any cancel fee which might be imposed.

Can I select the date in the future I want my policy to cancel?

Yes, on the date you select, your cancel request will become effective at 12:01 a.m. of that day. You will not have coverage through the canceled policy on that day.

I'm moving out of state. Do I have to cancel my policy?

You will need a new policy for the state to which you are moving. Progressive Direct insurance is available in all states except Massachusetts. Call Customer Service toll free at 1-877-280-8418 and we can work with you to ensure you have coverage that applies to your new home state.

I no longer have a vehicle. Do I still need insurance?

You can make changes or update your policy online. Add a driver, add or update a vehicle or change your coverages, or contact Customer Service toll free at 1-877-280-8418 for assistance.

If I stop paying, won't my policy just cancel?

Eventually, yes, but you will be paying for coverage up to the time we cancel the policy for non-payment. If your policy is not paid up before cancellation, it is possible the unpaid balance can go into collections. Please contact Customer Service toll free at 1-877-280-8418 for more information.

I received a cancel notice from Progressive Direct. What are my options?

You can make a payment online now or contact Customer Service toll free at 1-877-280-8418 about making a payment or possibly reinstating coverage with us.

My policy has canceled. What are my options?

Call Customer Service toll free at 1-877-280-8418 to find out if your policy is eligible for reinstatement or to purchase a new policy. If you owe money on your canceled policy, make a payment online now to prevent the unpaid balance from going into collections.

Will I be charged a fee to cancel my policy?

In some instance, there are fees. They vary, but typically are no more than $50.

How can I avoid paying cancel fees?

If you haven't already done so, you can pay your premium through the full policy term and allow your policy to expire at the end of the term. Otherwise, if your policy cancels before the end of the term, you may incur a cancel fee.

Do you have to report to the state department of motor vehicles that I canceled my policy?
