There isn't a set of performance specs which corresponds to the number of cylinders in an engine. Overall displacement, compression ratio, BTUs of the fuel being used... it all factors in. The first Ferrari V12 only kicked out 118 horsepower. while the F140CF engine of current vintage can produce up to 848 horsepower. The Detroit Diesel 12v71TI marine engine is rated at 675 horsepower, but substantially more torque than either of the aforementioned engines.
