In most states these types of vehicles are not legal to drive on the road. For this reason, you would not buy a regular auto policy to cover dune buggies. It used to be that no company would insure them at all but now it is fairly easy to get coverage under the off-road programs offered by many insurance companies. Read the policy carefully because since it is illegal to drive them on the road the off-road policy will not cover the vehicle is it is driven on the road. You will need to have a trailer and tow it to the area where you go off-roading. As a matter of full disclosure, I own and operate a small Independent Insurance Company in Central Georgia and have for the past 22 years. Prior to that I worked as an agent for a direct writer of insurance for 3 years.
