I don't know if it differs from state to state, however, if I remember it correctly... when you first get your license at 16 you have six points until you lose your license, and then, when you turn 21 you get like eight or something. And even if you lose a point, over time, as the infraction or traffic violation goes off your record (two years or something) those points come back.
HOWEVER... just because you keep getting one point tickets and say you still have like four points left, if it's your third violation they can still take away your license... so... drive safe...
