It depends on driving conditions and how well you take care of your car. Many people will recommend you change your oil every 3000 miles regardless of it's quality or driving conditions. Especially those who are charging you for the oil change.

This is simply not necessary with synthetic oils, however, which are designed to handle much more extreme conditions for much longer periods of time. Even under the most extreme conditions (i.e. Many short trips, stop and go city driving, and hot conditions with the AC on) Synthetic oil can very safely last 7500 miles. Under more normal driving conditions, it may last around 12000 miles.
