I definitely would suggest Craigslist.org. It's free, seems to be the most popular buying/selling site now. Anyone I know seems to go there first before anyplace else to see whats available. There is also eBay, but the fees are ridiculous. I've sold a few cars on eBay a few years ago and you end up paying them a few hundred dollars when all is said and done. I've also had bidders win and not pay and then had to start the whole auction again and pay again to just get reimbursed. It's definitely a hassle. The only other way is to trade it in but that way you get wholesale value which is alotttt less than selling it privately, thousands less. For example my friend just traded in a mint-condition 2001 Nissan Xterra to the dealer for $3k. She easily could have got double that on the private market. Also with craigslist you are speaking directly, immediately with local potential buyers. You can see who is serious and who is not. It's definitely worth the first try.
