You can normally feel them drop back into place. You can open the hood, have some one stand off to the side where they can see the engine without getting in front of the auto. Start the engine, put your foot firmly on the brake pedal, place the auto in forward gear, and slowly push on the gas pedal. The engine if it has a bad mount will start to roll up out of it's cradle before it starts to move the auto. When you take your foot off the gas it will drop back down.
