Remove the cover in the rear window.
The 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix rear deck speaker covers are held in place by four retaining screws. Remove the retaining screws to remove the covers.

Remove rear deck lid, use a 9/32 socket to remove screws, remove wires, reinstall them onto new speaker, reinstall the screws and the rear deck lid...
REAR SPEAKER - JR41 Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Fold down the rear seat backs. Remove C-pillar trim. Remove lower quarter trim behind rear seat backs. Remove fasteners from rear shelf trim. Pull out trim to access speaker. Remove speaker screws. Disconnect wire harness connector. Remove speaker (REAR SPEAKER-JR41). REAR SPEAKER - JR27 Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Using a trim stick, pry the speaker grill from the trim panel. Remove speaker mounting screws (REAR SPEAKER - JR27). Remove speaker from trim panel. Disconnect wire harness connector from speaker.
they can, if you modify the rear deck. here's how; carefully remove the rear deck. then cut out an opening where the old speaker was underneath. next put the rear deck back in and put your 6x9 ontop of the rear deck. you should be able to screw your speakers into the rear deck
remove the speaker covers from fear deck. remove the four screws that hold the speakers in the rear deck. four screws hold each speaker in place. unplug the wires from the connecters. if aftermarket speakers cut after plug and splice new speaker wires into existing factory wires. reverse the procedure to install new speakers.
remove the rear seat (bottom) pops right out from front. remove the rear seat (back) two nuts on the floor. the rear speaker deck slides out.
You cannot remove the speaker covers. Instead you must remove both the rear seet bottom (pull up and out), and the rear seat back (undo bolts located at bottom). Once you have done this, you can lift out the rear deck including the covers, exposing the speakers.
Most of these are not removable. You remove the speaker from the trunk area, and the grill stays in place. You may be able to remove them from behind after removing the speakers if they are clipped or bolted in place.
The ones in the front doors aren't covers, they just look like it. You have to remove the door panel to get to the speakers. The rear deck comes off by removing the rear seat and the rear interior panels. After you do those things you can slide the rear deck off and expose the rear speakers.
