Check the coolant level in your reservoir tank when the engine is cold. If the coolant level is below MIN add coolant up to the MAX level, Some older vehicles may not have a reservoir tank, so check the level in the Radiator. BUT only when cold. Remove the Radiator Cap and if necessary fill to the desired level. If the coolant level is low, it may also be necessary to check the anti freeze content, purchase an anti freeze tester and follow the instructions. Once again, the engine should be cold to avoid scalding.
This is located near the engine. It lets you know when the engine is getting too hot and the coolant is running low.
I've heard that it blinks when coolant is low and stays on when coolant is too hot.
In a Chevy Lumina, low coolant means that the car needs more anti-freeze/coolant added. This is needed to keep the engine from getting too hot
because your coolant level is too low. put some antifreeze in it......
2 Possibilities come to mind immediately: 1) Low coolant and air in the cooling system. As coolant is circulated through the heater core you may hear this noise you describe 2) Perhaps vehicle is "pinging" due to Spark timing advanced too far or the fuel you are using has too low an octane rating for the vehicle. try another grade of fuel. Perhaps a 91 octane if you are using an 89 octane rated fuel.
If you have the instrument panel with the tachometer , just above and to the left of the tachometer is a " check gage " light that comes on if the oil pressure is too low , the engine coolant temperature is too high , or your gas gauge is at or near empty
Sounds like your coolant is low or your coolant level sensor could be sticking closed after the coolant was low. with the dexcool coolant it becomes thick and cause the sensor to stick closed.
All sorts of thing can.. Low oil, low coolant, blocked radiator, stuck thermostat, running too lean on fuel... If it just suddenly started to do it and the levels are ok then check the thermostat.
If the coolant level is too low the A/C will not turn on.
See {Checking Coolant} on page 5-30 of your "Owner's Manual". under Section 5: Service and Appearance Care - Checking things under the hood.....
On a 2002 Ford Ranger : The check " gage " light comes on if : The engine coolant temperature is TOO HIGH The engine oil pressure is TOO LOW or The fuel gauge is at or near empty
Check your coolant level. If its too low the sensor won't read the temperature of your coolant.
