The 454 LS7 crate engine sold by GM is rated at 500 hp.
the 1970 Chevelle had 500 hp stock and 500 pounds of torque. The 1972 chevelle 454 was SAE rated @ 270 horsepower

There were 4 different 454's available in 70, so, the HP ratings were from 375, to a little over 500. The latter, ran in the 10's, in the quarter mile, right out of the box.

Advertised HorsePower is stright out of A CHILTON manual: And it says that the 1981 454 truck Engine With a 4-barrel has 210 HP. @ 3800 RPMs. The 1985 and 86 year 454 had 230 HP. @ 3800 RPMs. From 1984 down to 1979 454 engines had 210 HP @ 3800 RPMs.
The 1973 model 454 had---250 HP @ 4000 RPM with a 4- bbl carb. After 1973 the horse power went down about 10 HP before 1973 the 454 had 450HP so Chevy said. the 454 actually had close to 500HP
