The 2.8 v6 produced up to around 1985 had solid lifters with adjustable rocker arms.
to adjust the rocker arms you have to either tighten or loosen the top bolt on the rocker arm/arms that need to be adjusted. there is a specified torque for the rocker arms that you should follow to help you adjust the them
You don't. If you have valve clatter you have worn valve train parts starting with camshaft, lifters, push rods, rocker arms, rocker arm pivots and valves.
well the lifters shouldn't be too tight if they are the correct lifters for your vehicle. if your having problems with your valves opening its probably because your rocker arms are torqued beyond specifications. buy a manual and loosen your rocker arms torquing to specs.
To change the lifters on a 200 cid 6-cylinder engine, first, remove the valve cover and rocker arms to access the lifters. Then, carefully remove the intake manifold and any necessary components to reach the lifters. Replace the old lifters with new ones, ensuring they are properly seated, and reassemble the parts in reverse order. Finally, adjust the rocker arms as needed and check for proper operation before starting the engine.
If it's actually the rockers arms that are "chattering" while the engine runs, you may need to adjust the lash. If there are Solid lifters in the engine, you may want to switch to hydraulic lifters and adjust the rockers to the moment of "zero lash". Adjust them in pairs per cylinder while the lifters are in the down position (both valves closed). When you reach zero lash on the rocker arm (the pushrod will suddenly stop spinning freely in your fingers) add an additional quarter turn to the rocker arm nut to set the "pre-load" of the lifter. This just means that the pushrod will be pushed down slightly in the spring loaded hydraulic lifter and when the engine runs, the oil pressure will keep pressure on the lifter and thus the rocker arms will run silently. No to the roller lifters in the 2.8 Ford V6. The 2.8 as well as the 2.9 has regular flat tappet lifters and regular rocker arms.
It has hydraulic lifters, no adjustment. If you have valve noise you probably have worn valve train parts. Replacement of worn parts would be required.
through the lifters then through the push rods
no.
Rods and Rocker arms were the problem with my Malibu after changing lifters
To replace the valve lifters on a Cavalier, remove the intake manifold, valve covers and rocker arms. Remove the heads of the lifters using needle-nose pliers.
