when fuel enters into the cylinders through the valves, it is ignited by the spark plugs after the compression stroke of the piston, the spark plug then fires and ignites the fuel, this creates the power stroke, after this the exhaust valve opens and exhaust is released into the manifold, fuel produces carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and water, so small amounts of pollution are created and released through the exhaust system but is much less in fuel injected vehicles then what was in carbuerated vehicles
