∙ 9y agoYou do not need Mercury. Just install a door jam switch in the trunk wired into a light in the cat so that when the trunk is open a light will come on in the vehicle.

you mount the mercury container in the hood so that when it tilts gravity pulls the mercury down a tube and connects a cathode with an anode.
Trunk light switch is part of the trunk light socket assembly...
open trunk lid and locate the trunk light switch.push switch to see if light goes off. if light does not go off, replace switch. if light does go off, adjust switch to where trunk lid operates switch when trunk is closed

The trunk light and beeping is controlled by a switch in the trunk. The switch is located in the housing for the trunk latch. Repair the switch circuit to fix the problem.
if i don't have the key to open the trunk or the push button does not work from the inside of the car to open the trunk of a 1999 mercury cougar, could i be able to bypass the button or switch to open it?
