The torque settings for a 96 Fiat Punto 12cc for cylinder head bolts are 30 NM at 90 degrees. Then an additional 90 degrees.?æ?æ
Fiat do not issue torque settings for a punto they use angles so that you can snap your stretch bolts! after contacting fiat and haynes neither of them would give proper torque settings, so i delved into my many tech manuals on fiat fire engines which is what is in your punto and i have successfully changed many fiat punto head gaskets using the following torque settings: stage 1 starting from the centre head bolts tighten to 33nm: stage 2:65nm and finally stage 3: 96nm these torque settings work fine and will probably save you buying new head bolts.

Head bolts for a Punto 60s need to be tightened in 3 stages: stage 1 - tighten all bolts (in the correct order!) to 30Nm. stage 2 - tighten again, in same order as before, by turning wrench a further 90 degrees stage 3 - repeat stage 2

There are no timing marks but pins that are put through the head and into the camshaft locking it in the right position. They are dealer parts but you can get aftermarket ones. The crank is then positioned using a rod down the spark plug hole. Again this is available aftermarket. There are 2, one for cyl 1 and one for cyl2

Number 1 cylinder is at the left hand side if viewed from the front of car, i.e. the timing belt end
firstly tighten in sequence to 20Nm all round, then tighten to 30Nm all round, then tighten 90 degrees all round, and finally tighten a further 90 degrees all round. good luck!.
1 3 4 2 No one cylinder is the timing belt side of the engine
