Sometimes, but not always, the alternator will whine loudly when it's malfunctioning.
All fans will make a "whooshing noise" If there is a squeaking or grinding noise the fan motor needs to be replaced/refurbished.
If bearings go bad on a alternator/ will make a grindind noise or long squilling noise.. but if only electronic's inside alternator are damage no noise wil be heard
It needs replaced - bearings are out of it.
check your idler pulley and tesioner pulley
What you are hearing is the clutch on the air conditioning pump engaging... the alternator doesn't make any noise unless the bearings are going bad and then a grinding noise will be heard.
A bad alternator will make whats called a whirring noise. It could also make a low growl. This is just the bearings going bad. If your alternator is not supplying any power, it has nothing to do with noise typically.
In my case the bearing went bad and "froze" making a loud noise and making the fan belt smoke. If it does not make a noise, check the voltmeter on your dash - failure to charge could indicate the alternator is not working, but I think others things are more likely . It should be easy for a mechanic to test to see if the alternator is charging.
It depends on the noise. If it is a squealing noise it is probably a loose belt and needs to be replaced. Check the back of the belt if it is "glazed" meaning slippery and shiny then replace the belt.
It could be a number of things ... heres a list of things you might have to look into.. #1 belt needs changing #2 alternator #3 crankshaft pulley ...those are the main three things that will or can make your car make that annoying noise...
Well it could be that your belt ether needs adjusted or a new belt check the belt make sure its not worn. if u all ready have a new belt and u still have a sqweeking noise looks like it would be the bearing for the alternator is going out or you need to change out the alternator.
It can, but not always. In fact it can be defective and make no noise at all.
Possibly and it can be the drive belt making a noise. It you hear a whine it is likely the alternator bearings are shot. You can remove the alternator and have it tested at most auto parts stores, after you make sure the belt is good.
