Only the dealership can cut a Lexus key because the chip that allows the key and car to communicate is part of the metal part of the key.
I had to go to a Lexus dealer for mine. The keys are lazer cut. Cost me 60.00
Unfortunately, you cannot do this by yourself. You must go to a LEXUS dealer because these keys are laser precision cut. They only need to know your VIN and they will order the key to be cut from LEXUS. It may take about a week to get your key from LEXUS HQ.

Mazda millenia's have the same kind of key as a Lexus...the dealership is the only place that i know of... You have to find a locksmith that has a "sidewinder" cutting machine. They can cut the key much cheaper than the dealer!
No, I don't cut keys, but most major stores like Wal-Mart, and most hardware stores do, making it very accessible and easy to do.

You can get code keys cut at any dealer or locksmith. It cost me about $7 several years ago. Any dealer of the manufacturer (like GM), not just the make (like Oldsmobile), should be able to cut keys on genuine original equipment key blanks. Also any locksmith should be able to do it as they have code books and often the genuine code cutting tools. By locksmith I mean a real one, not the guy at the corner hardware store, who can only duplicate keys you already have. Have ID ready, and possibly proof of ownership of the vehicle. Unless the dealer knows you, they may not cut a key unless they know you own the car. Depending on the vehicle going to the dealership alone to get a key cut may not be enough. For instance the vast majority of newer vehicles are being equipped with Sentry Security Systems or the automakers version of it. These keys range easily from $75 - $600 depending on the manufacturer and the type of key and have to be present to be programmed. Unfortunately, the price of the key machine is added into the price of a key. So dealerships that had to buy a laser cut machine knocks even their cheap keys up to pay for the machine. Certain keys need to be programmed for their computer chip and/or built in transmitters. IF you have any spare keys with a spouse or family memeber be sure to bring it in because depending on the manufacturer when they program one it may void others if they are not present.
It depends on where you go!
