That term refers to the portion of the exhaust from the catalytic converter on back to where it ends at the rear of the vehicle.
They generally use larger pipe than the stock system. Good systems will have mandrel-bent turns that allow the exhaust gas pass with as little back pressure as possible. The mufflers in these kits are often glasspacks to reduce back pressure.
It is more of a improvement in sound than performance, it will help achieve a deeper sound that is lacking in small displacement engines and improves horsepower very little.
An improvement is there but hardly worth the cost as a performance upgrade.
not enough!!
Many users of a Cat Back exhaust system report noticing great and very beneficial improvements. Improvements from a Cat Back exhaust system include an increase in power and freer flow.
Using a cat back exhaust system can benefit you because it will free up your exhaust gas flow and produce a more pronounced engine note. Installing a cat back exhaust system will also increase your fuel economy.
cat back? 12hp/12ft-lbs.
You will get maybe 5hp out of the cai and 10-15 out of the catback.
Cheapest is to install a cold air intake and Magnaflow cat back exhaust. Should net at least 15 more hp.
N2O (nitrous-oxide) will give you the most " bang for the buck" (most cost effective). For maximum increase in horsepower a fully built tubocharged, inter-cooled, nitrous-injected engine would be in order. If your looking for one component to get the most out of what you already have, and adding the "spray" isn't in the picture, most start with a cat-back exhaust system.
probably about 30 hp i would know bcuz i own exactley that
Usually.
Some manufacturers of cat back exhaust systems are Flowmaster, Banks, Gibsons, Corsa, Invidia, RBP, Pacesetter, etc. These manufacturers provide different models of car back exhaust systems.
Put in a Borla cat-back exhaust, you will be greatly satisfied.
It depends on the application and proper tubing sizing. A properly sized exhaust will net some form of gain, but don't pay much attention to the manufacturer's claims. The average performance gain off of cat-back only for an all-motor application is generally 4-7 horsepower and torque, at best. Turbocharged vehicles can net much more power and better response when upgraded from stock to a larger free-flowing cat-back. For practically ANY performance application, all-motor or otherwise, a cat-back upgrade is a MUST, though.
