Let's set the record straight here.

A CDL would only be required if the Gross Combined Weight Rating of the truck and trailer together was in excess of 26,000 lbs., and the GVW of the trailer alone exceeds 10,000 lbs. You can drive a 26k Class 6 truck without a CDL... you can tow a trailer up to 10,000 lbs. GVW behind it and still not need a CDL.

If it is a commercial vehicle, and you're crossing state lines, however, you will need a DOT medical card. A one ton pickup of current manufacture has a GVW of around 12,000 - 13,000 lbs., and any commercial vehicle operating interstate requires the med card.

How is a trailer different from a semi-trailer?

Trailer is way more bigger than a semi-trailer. Common misconception between a trailer and a semi-trailer. Technically, a trailer has wheels in front and rear and is hitched to a pulling vehicle (car, truck, etc.) A semi- trailer only has wheels in the rear and is hitched to a pulling vehicle (car, truck, etc.)

Do you need a CDL to drive a f-450 with a 3 or 4 car hauler?

If the Gross Combination Weight Rating (the combined Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of the truck and of the trailer) is in excess of 26,000 lbs. then yes. For a 3/4 car hauler, the trailer will probably have a GVWR of at least 20,000 lbs. Combine that with the GVWR of an F450, and you're well over 26k GCWR.

07 f150 towing a 18 ft car hauler Do you need a trailer brake contoler or anything specialIt has the 7 pin adapter and has electric brakes on trailer?

You will need a trailer brake control installed in the truck. If you have the towing package on the truck (hitch receiver and seven blade plug) then the brake control is a simple plug in installation that takes no more than 20 minutes.
