since you are not stating what kind of engine or auto your working on, kinda hard to say. Each chevy, Ford, etc has it's own procedure on tightening head bolts. I recommend you get a service manual and follow there torque sequence instructions.
start at top center and spiral your way around the bolt pattern clockwise tighten to 29 ft./lbs. then turn 90 degs once then twice done
if alloy head 40nm then tighten 90 degrees
Use the following sequence in order to tighten the cylinder head:Tighten bolt 1 to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).Tighten bolt 2 to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).Tighten bolt 3 to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).Tighten bolt 4 to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).Tighten bolt 5 to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).Tighten bolt 6 to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).Tighten bolt 7 to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).Tighten bolt 8 to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).Tighten bolt 9 to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).Tighten bolt 10 to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).Use J36660-A to tighten all the cylinder head bolts an additional 90 degrees in sequence
You fit the end over the bolt head and turn . - Clockwise to tighten.
Begin by tightening the head bolts on each corner of the head. Next, tighten the center head bolts. Tighten the bolts on each end of the head and move towards the center.
Always start from the center and work your way out. Kind of like in a circular motion but the circle gets bigger & bigger. # Tighten bolt 1 to 63 N·m (46 lb ft). # Tighten bolt 2 to 58 N·m (43 lb ft). # Tighten bolt 3 to 58 N·m (43 lb ft). # Tighten bolt 4 to 63 N·m (46 lb ft). # Tighten bolt 5 to 63 N·m (46 lb ft). # Tighten bolt 6 to 58 N·m (43 lb ft). # Tighten bolt 7 to 58 N·m (43 lb ft). # Tighten bolt 8 to 63 N·m (46 lb ft). # Tighten bolt 9 to 63 N·m (46 lb ft). # Tighten bolt 10 (stud bolt) to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).
CAUTIONTo prevent cylinder head damage, GM recommends the usage of a Remove Cylinder Head Bolt Sequence with a cold engine. For installation, always use NEW cylinder head bolts. TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS:Cylinder Head/Camshaft Carrier Bolt 2.0L:Step 1: Torque all bolts to 18 Ft.Lbs. (24 N.m)Step 2: Tighten 60 DegreesStep 3: Tighten 60 DegreesStep 4: Tighten 60 DegreesStep 5: Tighten 30-50 Degrees
Tighten the head bolts in 2-3 steps to a final 30 NM
Tighten the bolt in the sequence until each is torqued to 49 Nm, then completely loosen all the bolt then re-tighten them in sequence once again until each torqued 20 Nm. tighten each bolt again by 90 degree in accordance with the tightening sequence. After that tighten each bolt again by 90 degree in accordance with the tightening sequence. Some mechanics will refer this method as "20+90deg+90deg"
1. Tighten head bolts in sequence to 34Nm/25lbft.2. Turn each bolt 90 degrees.3.Tighten to 90Nm/67lbft.If while turning through 90 degrees 90Nm/67lbft is reached stop tightening that bolt.NEW HEAD BOLTS must be used.
The Honda had bolt tightening sequence begins with the head bolts on each end of the head. Tighten the head bolts moving to the center, alternating from and to end.
the tensioner has a torx head bolt that comes in from the backside of it, you need to remove the belt and access the torx head bolt from underneath.... it is easier to have someone hold the new tensioner in place while you start the bolt back in and tighten it
