The DVLA does not notify you when an MOT is due, however you can look up the status of your vehicle's MOT on the government website.
The first test should be 12 months after the vehicle was first registered with DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency)
Simply enter your vehicle registration number on dvlamotcheck to check your MOT expiry date for free. You can also view the full MOT & Mileage history your vehicle as part of the free car check.
You must tell the dvla by writing and telling them of your plan. They will send a formal inspector or Mosket to your house to inspect the vehicle. As long as there happy (lots of tea and cake will help!) a certificate of formal inspoction will be issued. This will enable you to drive the bike to a MOT testing station for its final assesment. Once completeed this is sent back to the dvla and they will send you your V5. Congratulations, your on the road.
It is not intended that the public has full access to the DVLA database. However, from the UK government website you can find out various things about the vehicle, including:when its current vehicle tax expireswhen its MOT expiresthe date it was first registeredSORN statuscolourengine sizeyear of manufactureCO2 emissionscurrent vehicle tax rateYou must write to DVLA to request information about the current or previous registered keeper of a vehicle.
In the UK you currently need a valid certificate of insurance, an MOT if your car is more than 3 years old, Form V11 sent to the registered keeper by the DVLA and the means to pay the tax. If you respond to the V11 on line, the insurance and MOT will be automatically checked.

The MOT test is applicable 3 years after the car was first registered! What the hell is "mot" ? Is that an acronym, abbreviation or a typo? I'm assuming "mot" really means "mod" or modification to the car. How long? You can do it whenever you want. You just have to watch because a lot of mods will limit or void the warrantee. MOT = Ministry of Transport. A test carried out on cars every year to ensure they are roadworthy in the UK. A car needs its first MOT 3 years after first registration. Is this a great website or what? The things one learns!
