Yes they did. The very first practical automobile (Above) was invented in 1886 in Germany by Carl Benz. It was a 3 wheeled car called the Benz Patent Motor-wagon. 100 Years ago in 1915 cars were becoming common place with the Ford Model T being the dominant seller because it was cheap and could be bought by the average American. Ford sold over 15 million Model Ts around the world from 1908 to 1927.
