A 6 minute car wash and rinse will use up to 60 gallons of water, you should try steam cleaning its much more water efficient.
Washing an engine is never a good idea as water can get into the electrics. You can however take your car/engine to professional cleaners which will use special chemicals and steam to do the job.
minimum 140 liters to wash a car
Soap, water, sponge and elbow grease.
If the engine is idling during the car wash, then spray is probably getting in and shorting out the battery causing a near stall situation. The water spray from the car wash may be causing the belt to slip. That would cause the alternator to spin too slowly to generate the proper voltage.
