for everyday use (TRW)
Distributor Advance is the wrong term; the Distributor Advance system implies actually moving the timing components of the distributor to control timing of spark in the engine (A Vacuum Advance, is an example of this). Modern controls use computer spark mapping, through learned routines or factory set timing models to control the spark based on these tables, through the computer. In all essence it is the computer that controls all spark functions.
What does your owner's manual say? If you don't have one then use 10W30 until you find out for sure. i own a 89 camaro u need 5w30
you can as long as you use your TBI heads if you want to use the vortec heads with TBI you will need a special intake manifold or a carb manifold with a adapter to mount your throttle body to the carb manifold heres some more info TBI heads will mount to the vortec block TBI intake manifold has 12 bolts vortec intake manifold has 8 bolts
Don't do it. I have been fighting my sons 1978 caprice that he bought with a engine out of a newer model that has the computer controlled Q-jet and computer controlled distributor. same heads as the TBI. You need to get a manifold that fits and a different distributor from an earlier model. I tried drilling the holes on a Edlebrock, it worked for about fifteen minutes then started to leak water into the crankcase. you also will have fuel issues and will need a regulator and need to plug the return. I am no expert and am putting the other one back on. Good luck, it can be done but I am not sure what you gain, TBI heads weren't designed with a carb in mind
Yes, the Turbo 400 will bolt up to the 305. Use the original Turbo 400 torque converter and flex plate unless the 305 flex plate has dual bolt pattern to except the 400 converter.
Yes you can. But you will need to use a different intake manifold, one ment for a early model small block engine
It does not use a distributor, it has a coil on each plug.It does not use a distributor, it has a coil on each plug.
no one really makes one for a 305 TBI but a Shmidt might fit if not some company I believe Spectre makes a kit that allows you to build your own out of individual pipes and then you send back the pieces you dont use
Differences with the rear main bearing, and the intake manifold angles
tbi engine top end is different from carb engine top end. on a carburated engine, the intake and heads use 90 degree angles for intake mounting bolts. on a tbi engine, the intake and heads use 75 degree angles for intake bolts. you can choose one of these three options: entire new engine. intake manifold designed for tbi heads but utilizes a carb mounting flange on top or tbi manifold to spread bore or square bore adapter
The Chevrolet small block 400 will bolt in place of the 305 but be sure to use a 400 flywheel or flex plate. Do not use the 305 flywheel or flex plate on the 400.
