It is not recommended. Multi blend oils are intended for larger engines to keep lubricant flowing while the engine warms up. In a car engine the oil will heat up at approximately the same rate that the engine warms so the 5-30 is gradually becoming 30. In a small engine the engine will heat up much faster than the oil so you will have a very thin 5 blend trying to lubricate an already warm engine.

Can 10W-40 engine oil be used in the Briggs and Stratton 4-stroke lawnmower?

The user's guide to my 130 series B&S engine (garden cultivator) says: 10W-40 can be used if 10W-30 is not available at your location. So, if you fit to the 10W-30 oil temperature interval then 10W-40 can be used. On the other hand lawnmower is usually used at spring-summer temperatures so why not to use SAE30 oil?
