5W-30 is what it calls for. I wouldn't recommend 10W-40 if you live in a cool climate.

SAE 10w40 Full Synthetic and nothing else. The brand you choose is your choice. I personally use Pennzoil. Torque the drain plug to 22 lb/ft.

Use only the weight recommended by Volvo and I doubt that they recommend 10w40.
This is not advisable. You should use 10w 30w in this vehicle. Unless the 10w40 has been advised by the manufacturer.
In winter I use 10w40 SF or greater, summer 10w40 or 20w50 SF or greater.
