Passkey II can be reset based on the type of Truck you are looking at. You can usually reset it by the steps below. To determine if the passkey is your problem you need to know if the security light is flashing, solid, or out. Observe the Security indicator lamp in the instrument panel.
Remove the key from the lock cylinder.
- Security indicator should be Flashing when the door is open.
- Security indicator should be Off when all the doors are closed.
- If the Security indicator does not come On or go Off correctly, refer to the Content Theft Deterrent System diagnostic and repair information in the applicable Service Manual.
With the Doors closed, place the key in the lock cylinder and turn to the Run position. Observe the Security indicator lamp.
- Lamp is On and does not go Off however, the engine starts. This indicates that the Vehicle Theft Deterrent (Passlock) system detected a fault when the engine was running.
- Lamp flashes On and Off. This indicates a problem has been detected by the Passlock(Passlock™) system and the engine may not start this key cycle, a current condition. If you determine that the Passlock is the issue, you need to do some web research on the "corrosion of the passlock system" GM had massive issueswith them and you may be able to get the answer there.

Resetting a check engine light without making the necessary repairs will do NO good as it will come right back on. You will need a GM Tech1 (or compatible) scantool to retrieve and earse (reset) codes from either a 1994 or 1995 Beretta. This is because GM was in a transitional period between 1993-1996 to comply with the government mandated OBD-II system. The diagnostic components in those years are a combination of OBD-I and OBD-II parts, and cannot be scanned with a standard scantool.Unfortunately, unless you know someone with such a scantool (GM Tech1, Actron CP9150, etc.), you will need to go to a GM dealer to have your codes reset.
To deactivate the Passkey II security system on a 1998 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight LS, you typically need to use the correct key that has the embedded transponder chip. If you have a spare key, try using it, as sometimes the original key can wear out. If the system is malfunctioning, you may need to reset it by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes or using a diagnostic tool. If these methods don't work, consulting a professional locksmith or mechanic familiar with GM security systems is recommended.
You might have to bypass the security system or replace it. GM used the Passkey I, II and III security systems.....bypass kits for these can be found on Ebay and some other car websites.
Reset - 2014 II was released on: USA: 2014 (New York City, New York)
To reset the check engine light on a 1996 GMC truck, you can disconnect the battery by removing the negative terminal for about 15 minutes. This will clear the vehicle's computer memory and reset the light. Alternatively, you can use an OBD-II scanner to erase the trouble codes, which will also turn off the check engine light. However, it's important to address the underlying issue that triggered the light to ensure it doesn't come back on.
Connect an OBD-II code reader to the port just above the driver side kick panel and use it to reset the truck's computer. These readers are available online for less than the cost of a tank of gas. In the US, AutoZone will loan this tool free of charge (with a credit card) and the light can be reset in the parking lot.
It's a VATS system. If you know the value of the resistor you can cut the wires going to the lock cylinder and solder in a resistor of the correct value.
Xtreme 4x4 - 2001 Chase Truck Part II was released on: USA: August 2012
To reset the check engine light on a 2006 GM vehicle, you can disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 10-15 minutes. Alternatively, an OBD-II scanner can be used to clear the trouble codes that triggered the light. Just ensure that any underlying issues causing the light to illuminate are addressed before resetting it, as the light may return if the problem persists. Always consult your vehicle's manual for specific instructions related to your model.
The engine computer can be reset with a scan tool or by unhooking the battery.
