Auto insurance is not written for a term of less than 6 months. However, there is not rule saying you cannot cancel the insurance after one week. You will loose some money because the cancellation will be done at a short rate which penalizes you a little on the refund of premiums not earned. Pay the lowest downpayment possible to lessen the penalty. The reason there is a penalty at all is because it costs the company a good bit of money to issue a new policy with getting driving records, pulling clue reports, credit reports, paying commissions, etc. As a matter of full disclosure, I own and operate a small Independent Insurance Company in Central Georgia and have for the past 22 years. Prior to that I worked as an agent for a direct writer of insurance for 3 years.
