You can certainly remove any person from coverage under your own auto insurance policy. You can not however cancel another persons Policy.

The first named insured on a policy is geenrally considered the owner of the policy and can make whatever changes required.

If you have a joint owned policy and with respect to common law, it migt be wiser to simlply pick up a new policy for yourself and allow the old one to lapse or expire.
