you need a specieal type of welder. aluminum has a much lower melting point then iron or steel. You can try to soder it with lead free soder but i am not sure how well it will hold.
welding aluminum rims is not recommended. the welded area will never be as strong as it was before the crack or break. when you weld the area affected. the metal around it is effectively annealed making it softer than it originally was before welding. most places will not weld a rim for the simple reason of liability. soldering or home repairs are asking for trouble. you have to ask yourself. what costs more. a new rim, your wrecked car after the repair fails or your life if it causes a major accident.
It could be welded, but you never would fix a cracked rim.. It would be hard to balance and you could never trust it not to crack and break while using it. Replace it.
No . . . that would be extremely dangerous.
If the rim is welded to the tire, yes. You can change it, but you have to replace both the rim and the tire which will cost a lot. If the rim is welded to the vehicle itself, no. You cannot change it. In either case, having a welded rim is technically illegal in the US if you drive it on the road. If you don't, then it's not a problem
It is called aluminum welding. Aluminum can be TIG welded, the most common method, or oxy-fuel welded, or stick welded, or MIG welded.
No, rims are very tough. It takes a very hard hit to crack a rim. Installing a wheel weight will not cause a crack.

Yes, it can be welded, depending on the location of the crack. Some radiators are repairablbe, depending on the construction of the radiator. Older style all-brass/copper radiators can be soldered (not welded) if the leak area is accessible and the surrounding metal is strong enough. Some newer style plastic tank/aluminum core radiators can be repaired if the leak is at the joint between the tank(s) and the core, while others cannot. The plastic tanks themselves and the aluminum cores cannot be reliably repaired.
With a tube of aluminum crack fixer.
Usually. yes.
I think you mean wheels but no a 5 lug can not be converted onto a 6 lug
That depends on what kind of rim and the damage done to it? If the rim is steel, and the rim is merely cracked, yes it can be fixed. You would weld the crack closed. If the rim is bend, and the dent is not on the bead (place where the tire meets the rim) but ont he outside lip, you can simply sledge it back to place. If the rim has a flat spot, then the rim should be fixed by a professional to get it trued. If the rim is aluminum, everything changes. If there are minor scratches, you can get the rim resurfaced and the rim will be fine. After that, any other kind of damage is either irrepairable, or would most likely cost more than a new rim. Best thing to do, if it is an aluminum stock rim, is go to your local scrap yard and find a vehicle with one on it. You can even go to your local Costco tire shop(yes, Costco). They have a listing of a local wheel shop which can try to order your rim.
Cracks can be welded and then the head can be resurfaced.
