No! if your check engine light is on, your car or truck wont pass because it is a good reason for the inspecting station to make you spend a bunch of money at their facility to do the repair even though under state law it doesn't matter how your car is running as long as it passes the emissions if it is required, those not required to have an emissions test will also have to undergo the repairs even though they are not required if the testing facility chooses to make you have the repairs done.So far N.C. is the current State this applies to other States may have laws protecting it,s citizens against this type of practice where the Auto-Repair barrons have a death grip on the poor.
You don't, the light has to be repaired.
No, a person cannot just clean a check engine light to pass inspection. The issue causing the check engine light must be dealt with and fixed.

Yes. Va will pass your car with a check engine light. The inspection station will try to get you to figure out what is wrong with you car but they will not fail it. However, If your SRS light is on, the car will fail the inspection.
You will need to get the cause of the check engine light repaired.
No
Not in Massachusetts
There are many requirements in North Carolina that must be met in order for a car to pass inspection. However, one cannot have the check engine light on, in order to pass a car inspection.
Whether or not a car will pass inspection with the Check Engine light on is up to the state or county giving the test. As long as the car passes an emissions test, it should be fine.
The check engine lamp has absolutely NOTHING to do with the VA safety inspection
Check your gas cap. The check engine light may come on if the gas cap isn't on tight enough. As for whether a car can pass inspection in Maine this way, I do not know.
I just had a car inspected with a check engine light on--inspector said it did not matter in Texas.
