That really depends on your filter condition, type of fuel (#1 or #2) additives in the fuel, and year and model cummins. I use no additives, I have 06 5.9 cummins, I run #1 when it gets down to 10 above or below, I also sometimes use a mixture of #1 and #2. I plug mine in starting at -15. I have started it as low as -17 not plugged. I tried at -27 and it would not start, it started 15 minutes after plug in, though. This is all after sitting at least 12 hours or longer. I had a 6.0 powerstroke and had to plug in using #1 at 10 degrees above, 10 degrees above or lower temps, she was a no go not plugged in.
